Bellforge’s annual Pride Festival returns to the grounds with a special live performance by acclaimed singer-songwriter Melissa Ferrick, whose genre-defying music has shaped the indie, folk, and alternative landscape for more than three decades.
A Massachusetts native known for her powerful live shows and deeply honest songwriting, Ferrick has built a devoted following through music that blends raw vulnerability, storytelling, and fearless authenticity. As one of the few openly queer artists in the 1990s music scene, she helped challenge the industry’s rigid expectations and paved the way for future generations of artists to express their identities openly.
Join us on the Bellforge lawn for an afternoon of live music, connection, and celebration in honor of Pride. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, gather with friends and neighbors, and experience a performance from one of the region’s most compelling voices.
Artist Bio: Melissa Ferrick
For more than 30 years, Melissa Ferrick has built a prolific career as a genre-defying songwriter whose music moves fluidly between indie, folk, punk, and alternative sounds. Known for her raw honesty and powerful live performances, Ferrick’s songs invite listeners into moments of reflection, confession, and catharsis.
In 2023, Ferrick signed with the influential indie label Kill Rock Stars, home to artists including Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, The Decemberists, and Elliott Smith. To mark the 25th anniversary of her acclaimed album Everything I Need, she re-recorded the record using live voice-and-guitar takes that capture the emotional intensity of her performances.
As one of the few openly queer artists emerging in the 1990s music scene, Ferrick challenged industry norms and helped create space for future generations of artists to express their identities openly and authentically. A Massachusetts native, she has released eighteen albums over the course of her career and shared stages with artists including Bob Dylan, Ani DiFranco, k.d. Lang, Suzanne Vega, and Tegan and Sara.
In addition to her work as a performer, Ferrick is a Professor of Practice at Northeastern University, teaching songwriting, music business, and creative entrepreneurship, and recently launched Drive Music Agency, supporting emerging artists in the indie music scene.
