Rehearsal for Life presents The Gardener’s Daughter, a new work by Mary Torpey and Cooper Evello. This marks their third year partnering with Bellforge Arts Center.

Presented by Rehearsal for Life, The Gardener’s Daughter is a new original work by Mary Torpey and Cooper Evello. Premiering on the Bellforge grounds this summer, the production explores identity, resilience, and the complexities of growing up through ensemble-based musical theater. Performed by the Freelance Players, a youth theater troupe ages 8–16, the production blends storytelling, music, movement, and collaborative performance into an evening centered on the power of young voices and community.

About Rehearsal for Life
Rehearsal for Life is a Boston-based nonprofit organization that uses theater, improvisation, and the creative arts to help young people build social-emotional skills, confidence, empathy, and self-expression. Through in-school residencies, assemblies, after-school programs, and original performances presented throughout Greater Boston, the organization creates collaborative spaces where students explore creativity, dialogue, and community while engaging with issues relevant to their lives and the world around them.

About The Freelance Players
The Freelance Players is the transformational theater program of Rehearsal for Life, engaging teens in the creation and performance of original, issue-oriented musical theater. Active across Greater Boston since 1974, the program explores themes including identity, power, climate, belonging, and social change through collaborative performance and creative self-expression. Through ensemble-based theater making, participants develop artistic skills alongside greater confidence, emotional resilience, empathy, and self-awareness, while cultivating a meaningful, connected, and empowered youth community committed to positive social change.
