Frequently Asked Questions

Balance in Nature: Forest Bathing

Is this a hike or a fitness activity?

No. Forest bathing is a slow, gentle experience focused on sensory awareness and presence. We’ll move at an easy pace, with frequent pauses and time to rest.

How long is the experience?

The guided forest bathing experience lasts approximately 2.5 hours and is designed to feel unhurried and spacious.

Do I need any prior experience with meditation or nature programs?

No experience is required. All invitations and prompts are optional, and there is no right or wrong way to participate.

What ages is this experience suitable for?

This experience is designed for adults and older teens (approximately 16+) who are comfortable spending extended time outdoors in a quiet, reflective setting. Participants should be able to move slowly over uneven ground and remain engaged for the full 2.5-hour experience.

What should I wear or bring?

Please wear comfortable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. A water bottle is recommended. For those who are able, we’ll occasionally invite participants to sit on the ground or nearby rocks.

Where do we meet?

Participants will meet in the parking lot overlooking the Charles River, located at the back of the Medfield State Hospital campus. Additional wayfinding details will be shared closer to the event date.
