Medfield, MA [November 7, 2025] — The Bellforge Arts Center has announced a campaign to raise $50,000 to name a classroom in its new facility in honor of Richard DeSorgher, Medfield’s beloved Town Historian, educator, and lifelong resident until recent years.
DeSorgher, often referred to as “Mr. Medfield History,” has dedicated his life to preserving and sharing the town’s rich heritage. Through his books, articles, and long-running newspaper column, he has chronicled Medfield’s stories and people, ensuring that generations to come will understand and appreciate the community’s past.
A graduate of Medfield High School, DeSorgher went on to teach in the Medfield Public Schools across both the former Medfield Junior High and Medfield High School. He spent one year teaching English at the high school, then shifted fully into social studies — first at the junior high, and later at the high school, where he taught U.S. History and Political Science. Beyond the classroom, he has been deeply involved with the Medfield Historical Society and has contributed to several Massachusetts state commissions, establishing him as a respected authority on local and state history.
